We’ve been seeing worms a lot lately in the yard. And I have to be honest here, I never really liked them! In fact, I am terrified of worms! But the boys seem to be pretty amused with these creatures. So while we are seeing them around in the garden, I took out our earthworm life cycle figures for us to explore (which my Aunt brought when they came here to visit).
Before heading to the life cycle of worms, Mavi and I read about earthworms on the net. Here are some facts that we found fascinating about worms!
Earthworms are mostly 90% made up of water. Wow! Now, I made this materials, similar to my Animal Life Cycle learning resources. I love this approach as Mavi can retain so much information on presenting the life cycle this way.
And because I can’t take earthworms indoors nor conduct a hands-on learning on earthworms anatomy, we used our worm figure instead to examine the parts of an earthworm.
And because I wanted to integrate Vito into our activities, we made some wormy meal (unhealthy!). I made Vito hammer a few Oreo cookies… and use it as soil.
Then we added some wormy jellies for everyone to feast on!

So despite the fact that the thought of studying worms makes me want to lose my dinner, I've got to say these activities are great. My kiddos would love them. They've been fascinated with worms lately! I'm guessing I'll be back to visit this post later for reference.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for featuring our ocean themed clip cards! I love the earth worm activities you did, we will have to do these. My daughter loves holding worms.
ReplyDeleteI love your activities :) I agree with Renae that I also don't really like to think about studying worms, but I bet my kiddo would have a blast!!
ReplyDeleteI have to say the look on Vito's face crushing the Oreos just made me laugh out loud :) I know HE'S having the most fun of them all!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to use these printables as a reference when we study about worms... if we study about worms. ;) I love how you made the life-cycle cards! Great work. :)
