Math for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Wednesday, 17 April 2013

I’d like to share with you some of the “math” activities we used to do when Mavi was around 1 and 2 yrs old.  These are very simple activities that you can do anytime, with less preparation.

Ordering numbers 0 to 9.  I wrote the numbers in a cardstock as a control card.  This will familiarize the child of our number system and its ordering.

Using our flash cards and foam numbers, I made him match the numeral symbol to the amount of objects shown in the cards.  First we count the objects and and allow him to pick the correct number symbol from the container and match it with the card.

The infamous numbers and counters.  We used any kind of counters we have… as seen here, we used buttons and bears.

I also printed out some cards from online.  I forgot the link as this was years ago, so please do let me know if you own this printable or know the link.Pictures11[1]

And there you go! Hope this will jumpstart your math adventures with your little ones.  Happy counting!
